Mitch Benn

Mitch Benn – Don’t Fear The Reaper (Preview)

Mitch Benn LCF16 jpegIt’s been a morbid year for “the country’s leading musical satirist” (The Times); he’s turned 46 – over the hill by anyone’s standards – his personal life is in turmoil, and his childhood heroes are dropping like flies. At times like these, a man feels the Reaper creeping up on him…

But is death anything to fear? And is it really the end?

Mitch confronts his – and YOUR – mortality with hilarious (and tuneful) consequences.

The nation’s foremost musical satirist features regularly on Radio 4 where he has been a weekly contributor to ‘The Now Show’ since it’s inception, created his own aptly named series, ‘Mitch Benn’s Crimes Against Music’ and ‘The Mitch Benn Music Show’ where he plays records of comic songs and invites musical comedians into the studio to perform. He also appears on Radio 2’s ‘Steve Wright Show’ as the voice of “Elvis” in the “Ask Elvis” feature.

Ed Aczel

Ed Aczel: The Random Flapping of a Butterfly’s Wings

Ed AczelEd Aczel “Britain’s greatest living anti-comedian” comes to Leeds as he tries once again to nail down the nature of existence.

Aczel is known for not following the rules of stand-up comedy and he aims to use his show, with help of the Chaos Theory, to change the world once and for all – although it may turn out to be too complicated. He asks whether you can have your cake and eat it – i.e. seek to change human consciousness forever and keep your weekends free. Ed includes a couple of amusingly circular stories about his life, which thankfully don’t last long. Bringing Maths, History and Improv to life for beginners, he explores his own inner psyche with a section analysing his dreams – and then tries not to get too paranoid.

Not So Late Show

The Not So Late Show with Ross & Josh

Not So LateLive comedy chat show at The HiFi, full of sketches, guests and hilarity.

The Not So Late Show was originally conceived at The Hull Comedy Festival in 2014 (where all great ideas are born) and has continued in Leeds on an almost monthly basis, It combines the feel of American style talk / chat shows like Conan O’Brien with the absurdity of Reeves and Mortimer and the genre bending mix of styles associated with a good old fashioned variety show.

Past guests have included Gein’s Family Gift Shop, Dan Nightingale, Harriet Dyer, Lee Kyle, Peter Brush and regular appearances from Larry & Paul. Not to mention illustrious celebrities such as Freddie Mercury and Daft Punk, local heroes Barry the Beekeeper, Super Mario and John Michael Jars (the West Midlands’ finest Jean Michel Jarre tribute act) and, of course, everyone’s favorite light entertainment post-foetus talk show guest, Baby John.

People who know about these things have said :

‘Better than everything on TV, excellent value and pretty much guaranteed to make you hoot with laughter’ – (Silky @ Kill For A Seat Comedy)

‘Absolutely brilliant show. An hour of scintillating comedy’ – (Martin Kelner @ BBC Radio Leeds)

Richard Herring

Richard Herring: Happy Now?

Richard Herring LCF 16 ImageAfter years of drifting aimlessly and alone, Richard Herring is now settled down with a wife and a tiny baby. Is he finally happy now? Or does responsibility for the lives of others come with its own terrors?  In his twelfth solo stand up show, Richard examines whether we can ever hope to be, or are meant to be, truly content. If we were never unhappy would happiness have any meaning? Why do our brains force us to envision the worst possible outcomes even on a day when everything seems fine. How likely is it that Richard’s baby will be skewered by a stalactite of frozen urine falling from a plane and is it really worth him wasting his time thinking about it? Does being happy mean a comedian loses his edge and true belly laughs only come from depression? How much pressure was there on Happy the dwarf to live up to his name? Is there any system that will guarantee us eternal bliss or should we just embrace the fact that life is a vale of tears and our only option is to laugh in its face?
