Carl Donnelly

Carl Donnelly: Bad Man Tings (Preview)

Carl Donnelly LCF 16 ImageJoin twice Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated Carl Donnelly for an all new hour of funnies as he takes us through his thoughts on reaching the ripe old age of 34, the age that is statistically the happiest of your life. Following the mess that was his late twenties and early thirties (involving divorce, depression, hallucinogens and worse) Carl has now seemingly found peace in being a vegetable planting, self-hating liberal with a wide array of useless kitchen utensils and is trying to work out which life he prefers.

“Observational genius” (Guardian

Carl has appeared on various TV shows including Mock The Week, Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central, Dave’s One Night StandStand Up for the WeekRussell Howard’s Good News, Follow The Football and Comedy Store. He is also a regular on radio appearing as a guest on such shows as BBC 5live’s The Back End of Next Week, Radio 4’s Loose Ends and Act Your Age as well as being a regular guest on talkSPORT. He has also co-hosted a radio show for the Fubar Radio app after his acclaimed podcast which he recorded with Chris Martin. He has also performed at the biggest comedy festivals in the world (Montreal Just for Laughs, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, Kilkenny Cat Laughs etc).

“Excellent, fast-rising comic with pacy anecdotal routines” – Sunday Times

“Donnelly has developed a style that is the antithesis of the loud, sweaty, manic comic so prevalent on the telly and live tours at the moment. This is stand up with valium: near horizontal levels of louche that take the mundane stories of everyday life and turns them into stretches of self deprecating silliness” – The Guardian

Andy Zaltzman

Andy Zaltzman: Satirist for Hire

Andy Zaltzman brings his acclaimed show Satirist for Hire to Leeds Comedy Festival. Andy will address your queries, complaints, demands and general gripes to order in his uniquely interactive satirical stand-up show.

Are you exasperated by economics, piqued by politics, or wound up about the world? Then this is your chance to have the issues you care about satirised to order by one of Britain’s leading political comedians, who will deliver freshly-hewn, individually-tailored comedic responses to your big issues.

You are invited to email your satirico-query to satirisethis@satiristforhire.com, including the date of the show you’ll be attending, plus details of the issue/person/concept/thing you would like addressed. All issues considered (within reason), whether political, social or miscellaneous, and whether global, national, local or intensely personal.

Previous issues requested range from British democracy, via Syria, the lyrics of Carly Rae Jepsen, mental health provision in the age of austerity, the concept of hope, and Kevin Pietersen, all the way to criminal justice and Pokemon.

Zaltzman is half of the global smash hit topical podcast The Bugle, alongside John Oliver, and star of 5 Live’s 7 Day Sunday/Saturday, sundry stuff on Radio 4, and bafflingly/rightly infrequent TV appearances (delete according to taste), and has performed stand-up in all four of the world’s leading hemispheres.

This show will be performed in 3D.

Phil Nichol

Phil Nichol: 20 Years

Phil Nichol - 20 Years imageFor a comedian, when life sucks, the material’s good. If life gets really bad, that’s even better. If it’s completely horrendous then it makes for a great show. This should be a great show!

”Very polished, witty and insightful. It is also extremely funny.” – The List

”Seismically powerful award-winning comic force” – The Scotsman

Stephen K Amos

Stephen K Amos: The Laughter Master

Stephen K Amos LCF 16 imageThe maestro of feel-good comedy is coming to Leeds Comedy Festival with his new show. Fresh from sell-out tours of Australia and New Zealand, as heard on BBC Radio 4 Life: An Idiot’s Guide and What Does the K Stand For?

“Unashamed feel-good entertainment. Amos has had his share of TV exposure, but nothing that has successfully captured what he does live. If only a broadcaster could bottle the magic that was conjured up last night Amos would finally be a household name way beyond the Amos household” ★★★★ (Evening Standard)

“Amos is a brilliant comedian who has the ability to strike up an instant rapport with his live audience. I’ve seen him stand in front of a room of strangers and after a few minutes they all seem to be his friends” (Bruce Dessau)

“As his autobiographical sitcom plays out on BBC Radio 4, Stephen K Amos is officially becoming a national treasure. Expect more warm insight and spiky charm here” (Sunday Times)
